The widespread introduction of computers to homes started in the early Eighties and was accompanied by computers with 8 bits – Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum, above the rest. Of course, soccer games also came with these machines. There were a few attempts in this game category before that (companies like Atari, Intellivision, Ramtek, and others). Still, the real breakthrough in the quality of soccer games was made when computers came into the hands of “common” people outside of big companies. Home computers of that time were strong enough to handle fairly complex tasks and were equipped with adequate graphic and sound capabilities. Yet, they were reasonably priced, so programming wasn’t a luxury reserved for the big guys no longer. Many of the new and talented developers immediately started to make a new page into the history of แทงบอล.
The turning point around 1983. A computer programmer known as Andrew Spencer developed International Soccer. With good graphics for that time, improved ball flight models compared to the predecessors of the 70s, and nine levels of computer opponents (early games typically had two players only), The game took over the market in no time. Based on the historical perspective, there are certain opinions that this game is the greatest achievement of football games on 8-bit machines and more.
Perhaps that assessment was nostalgic colored, and maybe it was only the result of weak competition. During the reign of 8-bit devices, several hundreds of football games were created; however, only a few of them could be called good. The most notable titles were Match Day from 1985. (and its sequel from 1988. ) Gary Lineker’s Superstar Soccer by Gremlin Graphics and 5 A Side by the company called Anirog (later changed its name to Anco, which was yet to crave its name within the world of football games).
On the other side, there was a glut of bogus titles. It wasn’t clear how did their publishing houses come up with the courage to make them available to the public in the first place (who got to try Super Soccer by Imagine, or Peter Beardsley’s International Football by Grand Slam and knows the kind of games I’m talking about).
When it was shown that 8-bit computers could not bring the best football games, two games on C64 saved the day. It was in 1988 that Microprose released Microprose Soccer as well as Audiogenic published Emlyn Hughes International Soccer. Two amazing games that dealt with football in different ways. Microprose Soccer reinvented the top-down view (although graphically very similar to, several years ago, the arcade-based game Tehkan world Cup), featuring fast-paced action, colorful graphics, and neat options like – replays and various weather conditions during the game. On the other hand, Emlyn Hughes International Soccer used practically the same graphics as the old International Soccer, but with the full range of modern movements and methods to kick and pass the ball. Also, it had different characteristics for each participant in the team.
Those two games were cornerstones of soccer games on 8-bit computers, but their fame did not last long. The 80s were coming to an end, and along with them came to the end of แทงบอลออนไลน์. 16-bit computers were on the way, and along with them came titles like Kick Off and Sensible Soccer. But, that’s the subject of another article.
